How to Add and Manage an International Travel Pass for Travel Abroad
When traveling internationally, you can enhance your mobile experience by adding an International Travel Pass to your line. Below, we outline the available options, how to add the pass, and what happens if you don’t add one.
International Travel Pass Options
Coverage in Mexico and Canada
With Previ's T-Mobile plan, you enjoy the following benefits while traveling in Mexico and Canada:
Unlimited calls and texts within and to/from Mexico and Canada.
5 GB of high-speed data per billing cycle. After this allotment, unlimited data is available at deprioritized speeds. This coverage is included in your base plan, so there is no need to add an International Day Pass for travel to these regions.
Previ offers two types of International Travel Passes for T-Mobile Customers: These passes are intended for travel outside North America, as Mexico and Canada are covered under the base plan.
T-Mobile International Day Pass ($10/day per line): Unlimited calls and texts, 5 GB of high-speed data per day, followed by unlimited slower-speed data. Best for short trips under 10 days.
T-Mobile International 10+ Day Pass ($99 per line): Unlimited calls, texts, and data. Best for longer trips of 10 days or more.
For AT&T Previ offers the following pass:
AT&T International Day Pass ($12/day per line)
Steps to Add an International Travel Pass
You must add the International Travel Pass while you are still in the United States. Adding it while abroad may prevent successful activation. Follow these steps to add the pass via the Previ website:
Sign in to your account using your email.
Open the left menu and select Wireless.
Scroll to International Passes.
Choose the pass that matches your needs (Day Pass or 10+ Day Pass).
Select Schedule.
Choose the line(s) you want to update, set the start and end dates, and confirm scheduling.
What Happens Without a Travel Pass?
If you don’t add an International Travel Pass, we can not guarantee your phone will work while traveling.
Important Notes
Always add the International Travel Pass while in U.S. territory to ensure successful activation.
Consider the duration of your trip when selecting between the Day Pass and the 10+ Day Pass.
Activation Requirements for the International/Travel Day Pass
The International/Travel Day Pass must be added to a line while the device is still within the United States. If the pass is added after the device has already left US territory, activation may fail. This is because the pass requires US-based activation to function properly while abroad.
Common Issues with Activation
Adding the Pass While Abroad: If the pass is added after the device has already left the US, it will not activate successfully. This is a common issue faced by users who attempt to enable the pass after arriving at their international destination.
Alternative Plans for International Usage
If the International/Travel Day Pass cannot be activated because the device is already overseas, there are alternative options to ensure continued service:
Flat-Fee International Plans: These plans provide service abroad without requiring US-based activation. For example, the International 10+ Day Pass priced at $99 per line is available for trips of 10 days or more. This option allows users to stay connected without relying on the Day Pass.
Tips for Avoiding Activation Problems
To avoid issues with activating the International/Travel Day Pass:
Add the Pass Before Traveling: Ensure the pass is added to your line while you are still in the United States.
Verify Activation: Confirm that the pass is active before leaving the country.
Explore Alternatives in Advance: Familiarize yourself with alternative international plans in case activation issues arise.
Activation Process: Steps and Requirements
Purchase and Add the Travel Pass in the U.S. - The travel pass must be added to your mobile line while your device is in U.S. territory. Adding it while abroad may result in activation issues.
Enable Roaming Upon Arrival - Once you arrive at your international destination, ensure roaming is enabled on your device. This step is crucial for the travel pass to activate.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Adding the Pass Abroad - If the travel pass is added while your device is outside the U.S., it may remain in an “Activating” state and fail to activate. To avoid this, always add the pass while in U.S. territory.
Activation Timing - The travel pass activates immediately upon arrival at your destination, provided roaming is enabled. Ensure your device settings are configured correctly before traveling.
By following these steps and guidelines, you can stay connected and avoid unexpected charges while traveling internationally.
